Everything you need to know about ChipFixx kits, colour matching, and the application process.
Finding Your Paint Code
Your paint code is almost always on a sticker inside the driver's door jamb — open the driver's door and look at the edge of the door or the door frame. It's typically a 3–6 character code, for example 1G3 or WA8555.
Not sure where to look? Visit chipfixx.ca/#ymm-section for a make-and-model specific guide. You can also contact us at info@chipfixx.ca and we'll help you track it down.
Contact us at info@chipfixx.ca with your year, make, model, and paint code and we'll look into it. You can also contact your dealership's parts department — they can look up the colour using your VIN number.
Yes, completely normal. Paint codes are manufacturer-assigned and vary widely in format. Some are purely numeric (e.g. 040), others are alphanumeric (e.g. WA8555 or NH-578). Enter the full code exactly as it appears on your door sticker.
The paint code is required. Colour names are often inconsistent between model years, regions, and trim levels — the same name can mean slightly different formulas. The code is the only reliable way to ensure we mix the correct paint for your vehicle. If you're unsure, email us and we'll help.
Colour Match & Quality
We use OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) colour formulas — the same formulas used to mix paint at the factory when your vehicle was built. For solid (non-metallic) colours in good condition, most customers see a match in the 90%+ range after proper application.
Metallic, pearl, and tri-coat finishes involve particle flake that's physically sprayed at the factory, so touch-up systems typically achieve 80–90% improvement rather than 100% — this is an industry-wide limitation for all touch-up products, not specific to ChipFixx.
Fading is the biggest challenge for any touch-up product. Because our formula matches the original factory colour, it may appear slightly darker or richer than the surrounding faded paint. We recommend having faded panels corrected (polished or buffed) by a professional detailer before using ChipFixx, which helps restore the original shade and improves the match significantly.
ChipFixx carries most metallic, pearl, and tri-coat (3-stage) colours. Metallic and pearl paints contain fine flake particles that are sprayed in a controlled environment — a touch-up brush can't exactly replicate the factory spray pattern. Results are excellent but typically in the 80–90% range visually. For 100% invisible results on these finishes, a professional body shop respray is the only option (at significantly higher cost and a mark on your CarFax).
Yes. Every order is covered by our Colour Match Guarantee. If the colour doesn't match your vehicle's paint code, contact us and we'll replace the paint or refund your order — no hassle. This only applies when the correct paint code was used; we can't guarantee a match if an incorrect code was entered.
What's In The Kit
The Cleaner + Leveler is the component that sets ChipFixx apart from every other touch-up product on the market. It does two jobs:
Before painting: It cleans the chip — removing wax, grime, and any oily residue — so the paint bonds directly to bare metal, not on top of contaminants.
After painting: It levels and removes any excess paint from the surrounding clear coat, so only paint inside the chip remains. This is what gives you a smooth, flat result instead of a raised blob of paint on the surface.
Base Kit ($119 CAD) — Everything you need to touch up chips and light scratches. Includes the custom-mixed paint and the Cleaner + Leveler.
Premium Kit ($129 CAD) — Everything in the Base Kit, plus a wax kit. The wax removes any temporary hazing after the leveling step, leaving the surface with a showroom shine.
Pro Kit ($149 CAD) — Everything in the Premium Kit, plus a scratch remover for addressing shallower surface scratches that haven't broken through to bare metal.
No — and that's intentional. ChipFixx paint is formulated thicker than standard touch-up paint, so it bonds directly to bare metal without needing a separate primer step. There's no clear coat required either. The Cleaner + Leveler handles the finish leveling after application. No primer, no clear coat, no body shop.
Application & Technique
Not at all. ChipFixx was designed for anyone to use — no prior experience, no special equipment. Everything you need is in the kit. The process is three steps: clean the area with the Cleaner + Leveler, apply the paint with the included brush, then level and finish with the Cleaner + Leveler again. Most repairs take 30–60 minutes.
No problem — the Cleaner + Leveler can remove freshly applied ChipFixx paint within a few hours of application without damaging your factory paint or clear coat. So if you over-apply, smear, or aren't happy with how it looks, just wipe it off with the Cleaner + Leveler and start again. There's no risk to your car's original finish.
ChipFixx paint is touch-dry in approximately 30–60 minutes under normal conditions (room temperature, low humidity). We recommend waiting 24 hours before doing the final leveling step with the Cleaner + Leveler to ensure the paint has fully cured. Avoid washing the car or exposing the repair to rain during this 24-hour window.
Yes — ChipFixx works on both chips and scratches, as long as the damage has broken through to bare metal or primer. For very shallow surface scratches that haven't penetrated the clear coat, the scratch remover in the Pro Kit is the better tool. If you can feel the edge of a scratch with your fingernail, the paint has broken through and ChipFixx paint will fill it.
We recommend applying ChipFixx at temperatures above 10°C (50°F). Cold temperatures slow the drying process significantly and can affect how the paint bonds and levels. Avoid application in direct sunlight (which can cause the paint to skin over too quickly) or in high humidity.
Shipping & Orders

Because every kit is custom-mixed per order, we ship within 2–3 business days of your order being placed. Standard transit time after shipping varies by destination — most Canadian orders arrive within 1–3 additional business days, and US orders within 3–7 business days. You'll receive a tracking number once your order ships.
